Congregational Safe Guarding Policy Workshop
A Safeguarding Workshop was conducted for the staff of Sacred Heart Girls’ High School on the 2nd of September, led by Ms. Edwina, the Safeguarding Focal Person for the Good Shepherd South West India Province. The one-hour session was designed to strengthen staff awareness and understanding of the importance of creating and sustaining a safe, respectful, and nurturing environment for every student. The workshop began with an engaging quiz based on the Good Shepherd Safeguarding Policy, highlighting the shared responsibility of all staff members in ensuring the protection and well-being of children. Ms. Edwina guided the participants through a series of interactive activities and discussions, focusing on real-life scenarios that encouraged reflection on appropriate responses, preventive measures, and adherence to the three standards of the Safeguarding Policy. A major focus of the session was Standard 2 — Creating Safe Environments for Children and the Vulnerable. Staff members engaged in group discussions on identifying signs of abuse, handling disclosures with sensitivity, understanding gender sensitivity, and maintaining professional boundaries. Clear guidance was also provided on the reporting procedures to be followed in the event of any safeguarding concerns. Supporting Ms. Edwina in facilitating the workshop were Ms. Nethania Pereira, Ms. Sushma Stevens, and Ms. Pushpa Patil, the school’s Safeguarding Contact Persons. Their active involvement ensured that the province guidelines were effectively linked to the school’s own safeguarding framework, offering practical clarity on procedures and responsibilities at the school level. The workshop concluded with an open forum, where staff members shared reflections, raised queries, and reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the core safeguarding values of the institution. The session proved to be both insightful and empowering, reinforcing the collective duty of all educators to ensure that every child in the Sacred Heart community feels safe, respected, and protected at all times.
